The mediaeval town of Jedburgh is a modest, peaceful town located 10 miles inside the Scottish Border, halfway between Newcastle and Edinburgh. Jedburgh, nestled in the beautiful Borders countryside, has a lot to offer visitors. Nearby, you’ll find attractive shops, pubs, and award-winning, family-run restaurants, as well as historic sites like the interesting Jedburgh Castle Jail, Mary Queen of Scots House, and the majestic abbey, which stands above the town and dates back to 1138. The Teviot, Tweed, and Jed Rivers offer good fishing, and there are 21 excellent golf courses to pick from. The Borders also provide some fantastic walking and cycling opportunities, including along St Cuthbert’s Way, a 62-mile trail between Melrose and Lindisfarne that passes through Harestanes Countryside Visitor Centre. Melrose, Kelso, and Peebles are all within a short drive and are fun to visit at your leisure.
