Ruthin, a highland village north of Llangollen, is reached through the magnificent Horseshoe Pass. The town is charming, with charming half-timbered houses centred primarily around St Peter’s Square. There are numerous interesting stores and buildings to explore, as well as the Nant Clwyd House (Wales’ oldest timber frame), Ruthin Gaol, and Ruthin Craft Centre, which houses work by globally recognised artists and crafters. Lake Brenig, Moel Famau Country Park, and Clocaenog Forest are all within easy driving distance of Ruthin.
