On the East Coast, 15 miles south of Bridlington, is the charming coastal village of Hornsea. This historic Victorian resort is perfect for families since it boasts long, wide, safe sandy beaches as well as a lovely promenade with well-kept plants. The thriving town centre is filled with a nice selection of local shops, bars, and cafes, while Hornsea Mere, the largest natural lake in Yorkshire, is close by and provides boat rides, sailing, and fishing. While Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve, home to one of Britain’s greatest mainland puffin populations, can be reached in just over half an hour’s drive, Hornsea Freeport is well known for its shopping. Wassand Hall and walled gardens are nearby, and Hornsea makes a wonderful home base for exploring the Yorkshire Wolds, North York Moors, and East Riding coastal destinations. Within a short distance are the historic city of York, Beverley with its renowned gothic cathedral, and The Deep in Hull.
