Loftus, on Yorkshire’s east coast, is 14 miles from Whitby. Originally an alum mining community, it has terraced buildings, stone cottages, and big stone dwellings. The main street has shops, restaurants, pubs, banks, and a town hall. Behind the main street is a pool and leisure centre. Loftus lies near Runswick Bay and Staithes, a popular artist destination. Saltburn, 4 miles north, is an exquisite spa town with a golf club and lengthy pier. North Yorkshire Moors and Jurassic fossil coast are nearby.
