Yarmouth is a charming seaside town and the oldest settlement on the Isle of Wight. Its bustling harbour is a haven for all types of boats, and regular ferry service from the mainland to Lymington departs from its terminal. A visit to Henry VIII’s castle should not be missed, and Yarmouth’s winding lanes are home to a charming assortment of shops and inns. Along the beach trail, you can enjoy fantastic walking and cycling (there is a shop where you can rent bikes). Why not go for a vigorous walk in Headon Warren or adjacent Tennyson Down? Colwell Bay, with its sandy beach and family-friendly services, is 7 minutes’ drive from Sandhard Beach and 15 minutes’ walk from Sandhard Beach. Another great place to go crabbering is at Yarmouth’s pier and sailing club jetty. Compton Bay, four miles distant and known for its dinosaur fossils, is where you should go at low tide to see if you can spot the two massive three-toed feet. Yarmouth is a great place to start if you want to visit West Wight, an area of outstanding natural beauty.
