This pretty village, home to the local Crown Inn with Egon Ronay recommendation, stands on the edge of a Site of Special Scientific Interest on the slopes of Halkyn Mountain, also a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The whole area is renowned for its wonderful panoramic views, with the Clwydian Hills and Offa’s Dyke close by, offering an abundance of scenic walks, cycling and mountain bike trails. There are also several golf courses nearby. Loggerheads Country Park with its Visitor Centre offers the opportunity for glimpsing local wildlife, whilst walking along The Leete pathway on the banks of the River Alyn. The nearby small town of Holywell – the Lourdes of Wales – takes its name from a well surrounded by a chapel, which has been a site of pilgrimage since 660. Denbigh and the market town of Mold are also close by. Lixwm is a perfect base for exploring the whole of North Wales, being within easy reach of the many coastal resorts including the ever popular Llandudno with its beaches and pier, and the Snowdonia National Park. Medieval Chester affords the visitor ample opportunity for sightseeing and shopping on the famous ‘Rows’.
