The attractive village of Cononley lies in Airedale, four miles south of Skipton. The village’s 17th century heritage is still visible in some of the buildings, with an even greater number remaining from the villages heyday as a 19th century centre for hand loom weaving and lead mining. There are two pubs and a mainline railway station with links to Leeds, Skipton and the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway line. Nearby Skipton, known as “The Gateway to the Dales”, has an ancient castle, a beautiful old parish church and a colourful market occupying the cobbled setts each side of the high street. Enjoy a canal trip on a traditional barge or visit Embsay Steam Railway or the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.
