This small coastal town of Millom rests on the southern edges of the Lake District National Park. There are castle ruins to discover, as well as a museum of local history with a reconstruction of a drift mine lending a nod to its iron and steel works past. This town was the home of writer Norman Nicholson, who has a stained glass window in St. George’s Church dedicated to his memory. Nearby Haverigg offers a Blue Flag beach, a restored lighthouse and children’s adventure play areas. Other attractions in the region include Black Combe for walks with stunning views and Sandscale Haws, a National Nature Reserve with an outstanding plethora of wildlife. Further afield, the towns and villages of Grizedale, Ambleside and Windermere are easily accessible.
