Built on the site of a Roman fort and with a 16th-century tower house at its heart, plus 17th, 18th and 19th-century additions, the mansion is a spectacular building. This two-bedroom apartment is an excellent choice for a family who like the idea of walks in the estate’s parkland, adventures in the Cumbrian countryside and day trips to Carlisle.

The space

This spacious apartment features exposed beams set against a contemporary, minimal designer look, yet is homely and welcoming.

On the ground floor there’s an open-plan living area divided by a striking glass panelled staircase. To one side is the lounge that features sofa and armchair seating, a wood-burning stove and a 40-inch Smart TV. On the other side, is the kitchen/diner.

The kitchen is equipped with everything you could need to self-cater including an electric oven and induction hob, a microwave, fridge/freezer, coffee machine, dishwasher and washer/dryer, while the dining table and chairs is in the heart of the kitchen.

Also on the ground floor is a cloakroom with WC.

Up on the first floor are the two bedrooms. The spacious master has a king-size bed and an en-suite bathroom with a rolltop bath and a walk-in shower. The second bedroom has two zip and link single beds (which can be formed into a king-size bed if required) and features the original oak beams and fantastic views of the estate grounds. There is also a family shower room.

You’ll also have access to the estate’s 36 acres of grounds that include parkland and a walled garden. Meanwhile, benches are positioned in scenic spots so that you can enjoy reading a good book, chatting or daydreaming in peace.
