The town was the birthplace of William Wordsworth, whose home is a popular attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers shops, pubs and places to eat. The main attraction of the area is the scenery and walking in the northern lakes – Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.
