The Furness Railway transformed Grange-over-Sands from a sleepy fishing hamlet into a posh seaside resort in the early 1900s. Nearby are Lake Windermere, the villages of Bowness on the Windermere (about 8 miles distant) and Hawkshead, all of which preserve their unique beauty and character.
