The small and lively town of Boyle sits on the border between County Roscommon and County Sligo. Steeped in history, Boyle has had a varied past and features a beautifully preserved 12th century abbey, as well as the grand King House, a restored Georgian mansion in the centre of the town. Lough Key lies just outside Boyle with a superb wooded adventure centre, as well as pretty footpaths around the lakes, which take in the ruins of Rockingham House. Nearby Carrick-on-Shannon, a lovely riverside town, is internationally regarded as an angler’s paradise and offers no less than four large fishing lakes within a 6 mile radius. With a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants in the town, this is an excellent choice for an Irish holiday.
