Dearham lies in Allerdale, five miles from Cockermouth on the Lake District’s western edge. Dearham has four pubs, including The Old Mill Inn and The Ploughman, a Post Office/village shop, a fish and chip shop, a hairdresser, a gas station, and The Cottage Pie. The terrain offers magnificent vistas of the Loweswater Valley and mountains beyond, including Grassmoor. Solway Firth’s craggy shoreline is a short drive away, and the path south to Ravenglass is one of the UK’s most scenic and serene. Cockermouth is the birthplace of William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame), and Wordsworth’s Georgian family home is a National Trust site. Cockermouth is known for its excellent scenery and walking in the northern lakes of Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water, and Derwent Water. A great UK getaway.
