Pocklington, a charming market town, is located in the Vale of York, at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds. Perhaps its most famous feature is the Burnby Hall Gardens, an 8-acre oasis of beauty that includes two large lakes and the National Collection of water lilies. Stunning Sledmere House, the ancient city of York, and the mighty Castle Howard are just a few of the nearby world-famous attractions. The town has a Civic Centre, a leisure centre where you can participate in a variety of sports like swimming, and the Pocklington Arts Centre where you can watch movies and see performances all year round. The KP Golf Club, located roughly 1 mile from Pocklington, features wedding and other event facilities, a stylish bar and restaurant, and an 18-hole championship golf course. The Madhyamaka Kadampa Meditation Centre, located in Pocklington, is known worldwide for its meditation courses and retreats. David Hockney painted “Bigger Trees Near Warter” just a few miles away from the town of the same name. There are a number of bike paths in the area, including the North Sea Cycle Route, and walkers of all abilities will enjoy the nearby Wolds Way or one of the many other circular walks in the area. Tourists who prefer to travel by car will be happy to know that Pocklington is included in the Pocklington Round, a beautiful drive that passes through some of the area’s most picturesque villages.
