The village lies in an area of scenery and is home to a well-stocked shop, small swimming pool and two hotels. The world-renowned Inverewe Garden (National Trust) is half a mile across the bay from the village. Firemore beach is five miles to the west and north along the coast is Gruinard Bay with its striking sands; a series of attractive beaches border the bay and a number are easily reached from the main road.
