Haxby, a northern York satellite settlement, with excellent commuter and bus links into the mediaeval city centre. An excellent golf course is nearby at Strensall, and there are more options nearby. Strensall Common Nature Reserve is a protected area containing heathland and a variety of animals including birds, common lizards, and adders. The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking and cycling, with scenic riverbank paths heading into York. Dalby Forest is a great environment for a family day out, braided with walking and biking routes, and a Go Ape centre! A short drive away, Knaresborough has a bustling market square, quaint pubs, cafés, and shops along the River Nidd. In the summer, eat an ice cream and hire a row boat on the river.
