Barnard Castle is a market town located in County Durham’s Teesdale region. It is located on the site of an ancient Roman fort that straddles the river. Visitors should not miss seeing the castle’s mediaeval ruins, which still stand sentinel above the river. The town’s cobbled streets, yards, and back roads date back to the 12th century, and it is affectionately referred to as “Barney” by locals and visitors alike. The Bowes Museum, which is located just a few miles away, is a lovely place to spend a day exploring and learning about the fascinating exhibits.
