About where you'll be staying

The peaceful North Norfolk village of Syderstone is rich in history and has plenty of character being comprised mainly of pretty period cottages, many of which are built from local flint stones. One of the main attractions is the beautiful Syderstone Common and Norfolk Wildlife Trust nature reserve, designated an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) – it is one of only two remaining inland breeding sites in England of the natterjack toad, hence the name of the house! St Mary’s Church, at the heart of the village, has seen Queen Mary, Elizabeth I and Charles I as Patrons, and time and history have left their mark over nearly 1,000 years – once the church had two side aisles, and possibly a central tower, whereas today it has a distinct round tower. Syderstone is surrounded by wonderful, unspoilt countryside and is ideally situated for enjoying this attractive part of Norfolk with its many local attractions being just 10 miles from the coast with the picturesque seaside villages of Brancaster, Holkham, Thornham, Burnham Overy Staithe and the port town of Wells-next-the-Sea. As well as offering many golden, sandy beaches, this area also offers visitors RSPB sites, attractive fishing harbours and traditional vibrant seaside attractions. Don’t forget to explore the inland areas around Syderstone where you can shop and enjoy a relaxing coffee / splendid lunch in the chic village of Burnham Market (affectionately known as ‘Chelsea-on-sea’ due to its numerous eateries and boutique shops), explore the working flour mill at Bircham Windmill or visit one of the many country houses including The Royal Sandringham Estate, Houghton Hall or Holkham Hall. Creake Abbey (dating from 1206) is just a few miles away at North Creake where you’ll find an array of independent shops offering homewares, design, furniture, fabrics, antiques, glassware and pristine, pre-loved designer clothing and accessories as well as the delicious Barn Café. Docking, only 4 miles away, also offers good amenities, including a fish and chip shop, a Post Office, a village store and a family pub serving food. There is also a playing field with a children’s play area, a bowling green, a tennis court and a local fishing lake. The area also has several good golfing locations and is in the ideal spot for visiting the historic maritime town of King’s Lynn, which offers guides, tours and good shopping facilities.
