Loftus is a small village located 14 miles north of Whitby on the Yorkshire coast. Older stone cottages and terraced buildings are all that remain from an alum mining community that once thrived here in the 1800s. The city’s main thoroughfare is lined with stores, restaurants, taverns, banks, and an elegant town hall. A swimming pool is located behind the main street in a leisure centre. Staithes, a famous destination for artists, is just a short drive away from Loftus in North Yorkshire.
