Pocklington is a picturesque market town in the Vale of York, just below the Yorkshire Wolds. The National Collection of water lilies is housed in the 8-acre Burnby Hall Gardens, which also serve as a popular tourist attraction. Majestic Castle Howard, lovely Sledmere House, and the ancient city of York are all within easy driving distance. In addition to a Civic Centre and the Pocklington Arts Centre, which host film screenings and live performances throughout the year, Pocklington is home to a leisure centre where residents can participate in a variety of sports, including swimming. Not far from Pocklington is the KP Golf Club, which features a stylish bar and restaurant, a wedding and other event venue, and an 18-hole championship golf course. The Madhyamaka Kadampa Meditation Centre is also located in Pocklington and is well-known for its meditation courses and retreats. David Hockney painted “Bigger Trees Near Warter” just a few miles distant from the small town of Warter. The North Sea Cycle Route and other bike paths are close by, and walkers of all abilities will enjoy the many scenic long-distance trails, such as the Wolds Way. Pocklington is included in the Pocklington Round, a scenic drive that passes through some of the area’s loveliest villages.
