The small village of Five Lanes is situated just off the A30, less than 10 miles from Launceston and is home to the Kings Head pub and hotel, which was built in 1623. The pretty, neighbouring village of Altarnun offers a village shop, a Post Office and church, which is known as “the cathedral of the moors” plus long walks can be enjoyed around the local area. Eight miles away is the town of Launceston, on the Devon and Cornwall border. This town boasts wonderful architecture, including Georgian buildings in the central square, and is dominated by the ruins of a Norman castle sitting high above the town. Within driving distance is the Tamar Otter Park, or why not take a trip on the steam train from Launceston through the beautiful Kensey Valley? This area is near to The Camel Trail, which is part of the National Cycle Network. There’s plenty to see and do in the area, including visiting the seaside resorts of Bude and Padstow, as well as the city of Plymouth, and the stunning Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor are well worth exploring. A lovely base for your Cornish adventure.
