Swanage is a small, family-friendly beach village on the legendary Isle of Purbeck, at the eastern extremity of Dorset’s famous Jurassic Coast. It is best known for its magnificent, gently shelving golden dunes. The little town has a variety of stores, taverns, and restaurants, some of which specialise in locally caught seafood, and is well-known for its annual jazz festival, which takes place in July. The charming Victorian wooden pier is a terrific spot to take a stroll or try fishing, and it’s also a nice site to see the world go by, as it’s frequently used as a launching point for divers.
