Although Staindrop has always been linked to Raby Castle and its owners, it has always maintained its own identity as a lovely Teesdale village. The mediaeval core of the estate has been preserved and is now surrounded by a walled garden and a 200-acre deer park. Staindrop’s broad village green is surrounded by a variety of fascinating businesses, taverns, and cafes. Barnard Castle, a market town with a castle, the Bowes Museum, and a plethora of shops and cafes, is just 5 miles away. Teesdale is a great place to go for a walk.
