The crofting community of Elgol sits at the tip of the Strathaird Peninsula, in southern Skye, at the end of a single track road running from the village of Broadford. Passing through the picturesque village of Torrin, round the head of Loch Slapin with the celebrated Bla Bheinn mountain on the right, the road descends into Elgol, with breathtaking views overlooking the small islands of Rhum, Eigg, Canna and Soay. Several pleasure crafts operate from the pier, and it is well worth a trip to the famous Loch Coruisk in the heart of the Cuillin, passing a seal colony en route. Experienced hill walkers and climbers can set out from here into the surrounding mountains or have a picnic by the loch and return by the same boat 1.5 hours later. Elgol has a small community shop with a café offering some delicious homemade cakes, perfect for a break after a day of adventure. Petrol is available in Broadford, which can be found 15 miles from Elgol and has a variety of pubs/bars, restaurants and shops including a Post Office and a supermarket for all of your last minute amenities. Elgol is a wonderful village from which to base your Highland adventure.
