A charming village called Charlton Adam may be found in Somerset, halfway between Somerton and Kingweston. The village, which has a post office, and a pub named the Fox & Hounds, makes a nice home base for a self-catered trip, with further services located in Babcary and Somerton just a few miles away and easily accessible by car. Nearby attractions include Wheathill Golf Club, where you can practise your swing, Lytes Cary Manor, a stunning manor house encircled by lovely gardens and owned by the National Trust, and Combe Hill Wood, a sizable National Forest. In the direction of the Mendip Hills AONB, there are other points of interest, including the Bishop’s Palace & Gardens, the Wookey Hole Caves, and the walking and cycling routes in the Ebbor Gorge National Nature Reserve. Weymouth and the Isle of Portland, which are recommended stops for a taste of both the coast and the countryside, are accessible from Charlton Adam via the Dorset AONB.
