The scattered village of Walford lies in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just two miles from the riverside town of Ross-on-Wye, on the northern edge of the Royal Forest of Dean. Ideally located to enjoy excellent walks and cycle routes with the Wye Valley Walk and Offa’s Dyke Path both passing close by, as well as a traditional village pub. The Royal Forest of Dean comprises some 27,000 acres of woodland and provides, through a network of pathways and visitor centres, a chance to explore its beauty, history and many outdoor activities. The historic market town of Ross-on-Wye has timbered Tudor buildings, a 17th century market hall and majestic bridges, together with shops, pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes. Stroll along the banks of the River Wye, take a river cruise or view the countryside from a hot-air balloon! Visitors to this area can also enjoy day trips to Hay-on-Wye, the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park. Also recommended is a visit to nearby Hereford with its historic cathedral, museums and a variety of shops and restaurants.
