The village lies in rich farming country and is about 14 miles from the south coast at Bridport and Lyme Regis. Merriott has a good range of local services including a garage, general stores, farm shops, a pharmacy, a post office, a pub, and a pottery. There is a first school and pre-school, a church, a chapel, and a village hall, tithe barn and social club which are all host to a wide range of activities.There is a recreation ground with junior and senior play areas, cricket and football pitches, tennis courts and a bowling green. There is a separate squash club and court. Crewkerne, with a range of shops including a Waitrose Supermarket, is two miles away. The main line railway station for the London, Waterloo to Exeter line is at Crewkerne. The service to Waterloo takes two hours 30 minutes with trains leaving every hour. London Hammersmith can also be reached by Berry’s Express Coach which runs a regular service twice a day.
