The small tranquil hamlet of Pennington is located on the lovely Lake District Peninsula, which offers beautiful walking and cycling opportunities. The start of the Haematite and Cumbrian Way footpaths can be found here, as well as the twin pubs at Great Urswick Tarn, well known in the local area for their great food and fine ales. The market town of Ulverston, also known as the “festival town” because of its lively year round events, is Pennington’s nearest neighbour. Ulverston is the birthplace of Stan Laurel, and is the proud home of the one and only Laurel and Hardy museum. The town has many good shops, pubs and restaurants, a leisure centre and a cinema. The soft, sandy beaches and excellent birdwatching of the Furness Coast, and all the attractions of the National Park are easy to get to from here. There is fun for all the family at the South Lakes Wild Animal Park, Muncaster Castle, and the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway.
