Inverness, Scotland’s Highland Capital, is the gateway to the myriad joys of Scotland’s Highlands. Towering mountains, dark lochs, vast forests, and sheer sea cliffs are all easily accessible. The renowned Loch Ness, which is surrounded by some absolutely magnificent landscape, is of particular note, yet most visitors are looking for something a little more mysterious! Culloden Moor, just outside the city, is the site of the Culloden Battlefield (National Trust). The location of the last major combat fought on British soil, there is an award-winning display representing the battle, and a stroll over the battlefield serves as a sad remembrance of the clansmen who died.
