Cowes, located at the mouth of the Medina River, is divided into two independent towns that are joined by the regular floating bridge chain ferry. Both settlements have a lot to offer visitors, with West Cowes being a world-famous sailing centre with excellent facilities for all types of watersports, as well as being the cycling gateway to the island thanks to the National Cycle Route 23 going through it. There is also a beach and a plethora of wonderful restaurants, inns, and unique specialised shops; there is something for everyone with a fantastic vibe. East Cowes is well known for Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s Italian-style country residence; a tour of the luxurious royal rooms and stunning gardens is highly recommended.
