Enniscorthy is the county’s second-largest town, with a history stretching back over 1500 years. It is 14 miles north of Wexford, at the tidal extreme of the River Slaney. The town has a hilly aspect to it and is home to a magnificent Norman castle that houses the Wexford County Museum, which houses local and agricultural artefacts. In the town, there is also an interactive museum dedicated to narrating the narrative of the legendary 1798 rising. Visitors may now enjoy a swimming pool, leisure centre, golf, tennis, a superb selection of shops, pubs, and restaurants, as well as a weekly farmers’ market. Enniscorthy is an excellent travelling base.
