Tadcaster is a historic marketplace conveniently located between the North Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. Wonderful walks can be had along the River Wharfe, as well as cycling, climbing, fishing, boating, golfing, or just sitting and taking in the serene atmosphere and picturesque surroundings. Tadcaster’s three breweries use the town’s high-quality water to produce beers that are popular all over the world. John Smith’s is one of the oldest breweries in the UK, having opened in 1758; brewery tours are offered frequently and are quite popular. Harrogate, a spa town, and the historic cathedral cities of Ripon and York are all within easy driving distance, as are the great stately homes of Castle Howard and Harewood House, the Cistercian Abbeys of Fountains, Rievaulx, and Jervaulx, and the castles of Middleham, Bolton, and Richmond.
