British Birds A Pocket Guide

Happy New Year from the team at Bird Spot HQ!

It’s the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch this month, the UK’s biggest wildlife survey. And to celebrate we’re giving one lucky Bird Spotter the chance to win a copy of British Birds: A Pocket Guide.

Part of the brilliant WILDGuides series, this little book is packed full of hundreds of stunning photographs and detailed descriptions to help you identify not only the birds in your garden but also those found further afield.

To enter all you need to do is tell us which is the best bird that has ever visited your garden. Enter your answers in the comments below, and we’ll pick a winner at random using the wonderful wheel of names.

The competition closes at 11:59 pm on the 8th January 2020 and you can see the full competition Ts&Cs here.

Good luck!

  1. I’ve started getting a woodpecker in my garden recently, though my favourite is a nuthatch visitor I’ve been having a while now 🙂

  2. I had waited a very long time hoping I might be lucky enough to see a Sparrowhawk in my garden close enough to photograph, then one day, without warning I looked up from my hide and there it was, the most beautiful Sparrowhawk I’d ever seen, and It settled long enough for me to get a few shots, How lucky was I ?

  3. Never ever, seen a Goldfinch in my 30 year old garden, spotted one on Christmas Eve, watched 2 Goldfinch flying around on Tuesday 31st December 2019.

  4. Pair of bullfinches, beautiful, majestic birds. Had only EVER seen one in over 40 years and they started visiting our garden regularly 3 years ago

  5. The little robin that regularly visits my garden. That might seem like an everyday bird to some, but I get such a thrill when I see a robin. He was stood on the fence singing away the other day. It’s just so lovely to see

  6. We once had a pheasant pop into our back garden but one day we were blessed with a visit from a red kite one of my all time favourite birds ?

  7. A Kingfisher, he sat on our ornamental heron, for 20minutes, dived into our pond, caught a goldfish, stunned it on the rockery, swallowed it whole and flew off.
