About

Situated near the picturesque village of Egleton, the Anglian Water Birdwatching Centre is the ideal starting point for a visit to Rutland Water nature reserve. It is managed by the Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust in partnership with Anglian Water and as well as a wonderful site to observe wintering birds, it is also a great spot to watch ospreys as they fish over the lagoons in the summer.

On the wetlands, you’ll have the chance to see great white egrets, ducks, terns, grebes, coots, moorhens, and herons, as well as rarer species such as visiting black and white smews. Venture into the meadows, woodlands, and plantations where in spring nightingales and cuckoos can be heard calling from amongst the grasses and trees.

There are over 20 wildlife hides to explore as well as a variety of nature trails, many that are accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs. An electric buggy is also available to hire – just phone ahead to book.

The visitor centre offers panoramic views from floor-to ceiling windows so you can settle down with a cup of tea and take in the amazing surroundings. You’ll also find exhibitions and interactive displays, an educational centre, cafes serving snacks, drinks, and lunches, toilets, and a Wildlife Trust shop. There are plenty of things for kids to do making the centre an ideal destination for all the family to enjoy an immersive wildlife experience.

Please note, only guide dogs are allowed at the centre.
