A few miles north of Carnforth, the Tewitfield Locks on the Lancaster Canal may be found on the border between the Southern Lake District and the Western Dales. There is now a marina and a new ‘hamlet’ at the locks, which includes its own moorings, grounds with a playground and a popular country pub and restaurant. An educational farm with its own craft centre, cafe, bakery and butcher’s store is nearby. A tropical hall and butterfly house are two of the many attractions of the Lakeland Wildlife Oasis, which is located in a gorgeous rolling countryside.
