Whorlton is a pretty Teesdale village and has always been closely identified with the nearby Raby Castle and its owners. The popular ancient market town of Barnard Castle is only three miles away with its own 12th Century Norman castle founded by Bernard de Balliol make this a fascinating place to visit. Coupled with a wide range of shops, an antiques quarter, a host of tea-rooms, pubs and restaurants, the region has something for everyone. The Bowes Museum, High Force and Shildon Railway museum are only a short drive away, and walkers will enjoy the many trails and footpaths around Teesdale.
