Llangollen is a picturesque tourist town that draws visitors from all over the world for its annual Musical Eisteddfod and its idyllic setting in the Vale of Llangollen, a valley surrounded by dramatic mountains and the River Dee, which is dotted with boulders. Take a ride on a steam train or a canal boat to see the green valley, or hike to the top of Castell Dinas Brân for a bird’s-eye view of the town below. The town of Llangollen is home to a wide variety of eateries and retail establishments. Chirk Castle and Erddig, both owned by the National Trust, are conveniently close by car, and six of the “Seven Wonders of Wales” can be seen along a single day’s driving route. The Offa’s Dyke Path, which offers pleasant walking along the crest of the Clwyd hills, also passes through the area.
