Once a rubbish dump, the 2 hectares site at Birch Road Pond has been transformed into a peaceful wildlife haven for all the local community to enjoy.
At its centre is the pond, which provides the ideal habitat for frogs, newts, and dragonflies. In the summer, the surrounding vegetation grows into a spectacular jungle which attracts many species of birds including goldfinches, bullfinches, and willow warblers. Herons and house martins arrive to feed from the pool, in which moorhends, and a variety of ducks can be found, while great spotted woodpeckers and nuthatches can be spotted amongst the nearby trees.
Situated nest the recreation ground, the main access to Birch Road Pond is via a kissing gate. There is a boardwalk that runs around the reserve as well as a viewing platform to help you take in the beauty of the area.
Please note, the reserve can get muddy at times, and there are steps up to the bridges at the side of the pond. Dogs are allowed in the reserve but must be controlled at all times
There is limited parking near the entrance. Alternatively, you can park in the public car park in Ellesmere.
