British Birds A Pocket Guide

Happy New Year from the team at Bird Spot HQ!

It’s the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch this month, the UK’s biggest wildlife survey. And to celebrate we’re giving one lucky Bird Spotter the chance to win a copy of British Birds: A Pocket Guide.

Part of the brilliant WILDGuides series, this little book is packed full of hundreds of stunning photographs and detailed descriptions to help you identify not only the birds in your garden but also those found further afield.

To enter all you need to do is tell us which is the best bird that has ever visited your garden. Enter your answers in the comments below, and we’ll pick a winner at random using the wonderful wheel of names.

The competition closes at 11:59 pm on the 8th January 2020 and you can see the full competition Ts&Cs here.

Good luck!

  1. Robin. Love hearing it sing. Know loved ones who are no longer with us are close and keeping an eye on us.

  2. WOODPECKER VERY SHY BIRD BUT USED TO CALL ALL THE TIME NOT SEEN MANY LAST 12 MONTHS. WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE BIRD WORLD

  3. We live on an estate in Nottingham we do our best to encourage all birds and wildlife with a variety of food +pond for amphibians, however I looked out of the window onto our back garden and there it was it stood a metre high quickly getting glasses, and camera, i stood without movement, wait a minute what’s that, yes you got it a prize carp sticking out of the huge herons mouth right down it’s throat. Husband was horrified but the heron and I enjoyed he moment.

  4. We are lucky although we live on a largish housing estate we get so many varieties of birds ranging from most of the types of tits to redwings and gold crest, wood peckers both greater spotted and green but the most amazing was a perched female sparrow hawk who watched me photograph her with her beady eyes ?

  5. My favourite garden visitor has to be the Goldcrest. I spotted one for the first time in our garden on New year’s day what’s a way to start the year ?

  6. buzzard so majistic and beautiful to see such a big and wanderful bird in my tiny garden was one of the most exiting experience .unfortunatly my photo on my phone did not do him justice but a memory to treasure forever i

  7. Long TIailed Tits are my favourite. Love their round faces and their chorus high pitched tweeting and how they all hang off the bird feeders like little teaspoons ?
