Happy New Year from the team at Bird Spot HQ!
It’s the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch this month, the UK’s biggest wildlife survey. And to celebrate we’re giving one lucky Bird Spotter the chance to win a copy of British Birds: A Pocket Guide.
Part of the brilliant WILDGuides series, this little book is packed full of hundreds of stunning photographs and detailed descriptions to help you identify not only the birds in your garden but also those found further afield.
To enter all you need to do is tell us which is the best bird that has ever visited your garden. Enter your answers in the comments below, and we’ll pick a winner at random using the wonderful wheel of names.
The competition closes at 11:59 pm on the 8th January 2020 and you can see the full competition Ts&Cs here.
Good luck!
This competition is now closed. Congratulations to Mrs D McCandless – we hope you enjoy the book.
Don’t worry if you weren’t able to enter – check back soon for another chance to win.

Weve had a fair few visitors!
Coal tits, blue tits, robins, nut hatches, wood pigeons, jays, red kits,Falcons and the owls that call out at night. There is also a resident lone crow that has leucism! (White feathers on wings).
By fair favourite are the Robin’s, friendly little guys – their songs are lovely to hear in the evening.

i like all my birds that come to my garden ,i could almost set my clock by some of them, but the last one at the end of the day is the robin,
check it out.
We have a few, my favourite is a little Robin in the colder months that sits on a old piece of wood near our back door. Living rurally one of the best things is seeing wildlife in our garden
We have a lovely pair of bull finches which keep coming back to our feeder. This year they brought their young to the feeder too which was magical to know you are helping.
robins as they are stunning and cute little things and apparently means loved ones are near
I have seen a Sparrowhawk in our garden, but my wife has trumped me with a Red Kite, which are just starting to become more common around us in Bordon, Hampshire.
A robin – always like to think its my sister in heaven come to visit
i’ve only recently bought a feeding station & started paying attention to our feathered friends, but i love seeing our resident magpie & robin comibg for their fill!
I am torn between Green Woodpecker and Bullfinch x
After putting food out on a high stump, I saw not but two Jays eating it by the time I got back to the house. I live in a built up area too but it does have a lot of big street trees and good cover.
our regular visitor of a great spotted woodpecker always brings us joy
I have a little owl that wakes me up during the night screeching, i wish i could see the beautiful creature. Apart from that i would say a sparrowhawk has been my favourite so far.
Although I now live in Florida and watch many different birds I still miss seeing the Robin the Wrens Blue Tits and Finches and others to numerous to mention . Watched them in all seasons with much enjoyment.
