Situated in the Derwent Valley, the little town of Belper boasts a long and famous history dating back to the 13th Century. Originally called Beaurepaire – beautiful retreat – this is now a vibrant and bustling town full of attractions such as the North Mill, Long Row and the River Gardens. Just 10 miles away is the popular Peak District town of Matlock which, together with its neighbour Matlock Bath, is set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent. The Matlocks offer a wide selection of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as a host of other exciting attractions. Incredible views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car, which takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham – a great place for all the family with many different activities on offer. South of Belper is the start of the High Peak Cycle Trail, and to the north is the market town of Bakewell and Chatsworth House.
