The town’s historic market hall dates back to the 17th century, and a contemporary recreation facility with a swimming pool can be found nearby. For those who want to explore the Peak District National Park, Bakewell is the ideal starting point. Alton Towers, the UK’s most popular theme park, is just a short drive away from the rugged Dark Peak and the softer limestone White Peak. Stately homes such as Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall are just a few of the many that can be visited, as are the impressive caverns in nearby Castleton and the resting place of Little John in Hathersage.
