With an impressive 17th century market house at its centre, the conservation village of Winster is situated within the Peak District National Park. This extremely pretty location is mostly composed of three main streets – Main Street, East Bank and West Bank boasting imposing 18th Century farm houses, nearly all of which are at least three storeys tall. Off the main street visitors can find the slightly less grand though equally fascinating ‘ginnels’, or alleyways. The village still holds a number of traditional events throughout the year, such as a pancake race every Shrove Tuesday and the annual Wakes festivities which take place in June, as well as events hosted by the local Morris dancers. The village boasts plenty of essential amenities too – a post office/gift shop, a well stocked grocer’s shop and two pubs both serving food and local traditional beers.
